Surrey Council Renews Fleetwood BIA’s Term for Two More Years
The Surrey Council has extended the term of the Fleetwood Business Improvement Association (BIA) for an additional two years, effective from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2028. This decision, made on November 3, reflects the council’s confidence in the BIA’s ongoing initiatives to support local businesses in the Fleetwood area.
Councillor Harry Bains praised the BIA’s efforts, particularly along Fraser Highway, where many businesses have faced challenges. “I just want to say I think the Fleetwood BIA does an amazing job,” Bains stated. He acknowledged the dedication of the management team, emphasizing their commitment to standing by businesses throughout difficult times. “I’m happy to support this,” he concluded.
The Fleetwood BIA is one of four such associations in Surrey, which also includes the Cloverdale BIA, Downtown Surrey BIA, and Newton BIA. The Fleetwood BIA was initially approved by the council in 2016, and its renewal reflects a positive response from the local community.
In a report presented to the council, City Manager Rob Costanzo highlighted the outreach efforts conducted by the BIA. Between July and September, the association engaged with property owners and members to gather feedback. The outreach resulted in 58 completed surveys, with an impressive 91.4 percent of respondents supporting the renewal of the BIA’s term.
This overwhelming support underscores the vital role that the Fleetwood BIA plays in fostering a vibrant business environment. The council’s renewal not only provides continuity for the BIA but also reinforces its mission to enhance the economic landscape of the Fleetwood community.
As the BIA prepares for the next two years, it will continue to focus on initiatives that promote local businesses and enhance the overall community experience. The support from Surrey Council and the local stakeholders positions the Fleetwood BIA to address future challenges and opportunities effectively.
