Firefighters Rescue Two Residents from Woodstock Blaze
A house fire in Woodstock on Saturday morning resulted in the successful rescue of two residents by local firefighters. The incident occurred around 7:42 a.m. on March 15, 2024, in the 100 block of E. Todd Avenue, according to spokesperson Alex Vucha of the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered visible smoke emanating from the single-story home. They quickly entered the residence and discovered two occupants who were “unable to exit on their own due to limited mobility,” Vucha explained. The fire crews managed to safely evacuate the individuals, who were subsequently evaluated by paramedics on the scene but declined further treatment or transport.
As firefighters assessed the situation, they upgraded the incident to a working fire, prompting additional agencies to respond. Fortunately, the team was able to extinguish the flames within minutes, limiting the damage to a single bedroom. The final units cleared the scene shortly before 8:30 a.m., allowing residents to return to their home.
Investigation Underway
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District confirmed that the house remains habitable while repairs are being conducted. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, as officials seek to determine the circumstances that led to the blaze.
Vucha issued a reminder to the community on fire safety. He emphasized the importance of caution when using extension cords and portable power strips. “Avoid overloading circuits and ensure cords are in good condition without frays or damage. Extension cords should be used temporarily and never as permanent wiring,” he stated.
As investigations continue, local authorities encourage residents to remain vigilant and prioritize fire safety in their homes.
