Windsor Regional Hospital Aims to Hire 15 Diagnostic Imaging Staff

Windsor Regional Hospital has announced an initiative to recruit approximately 15 new staff members for its diagnostic imaging (DI) department. This effort comes as the hospital seeks to fill critical gaps in its staffing. To facilitate this, the hospital has launched a dedicated job recruitment page aimed at attracting qualified professionals across Canada in various imaging specialties, including MRI, CT, ultrasound, X-ray, and nuclear medicine.

The DI team is integral to delivering precise, timely, and high-quality patient care through advanced imaging technologies. Currently, Windsor Regional Hospital faces challenges in staffing these vital roles. In response, the hospital is offering a signing bonus of up to $25,000 to incentivize potential applicants.

Staffing Needs and Recruitment Challenges

According to Nicole Krywionek, Chief Nursing Executive and Vice President of Windsor Regional Hospital, the DI department has specific vacancies that need urgent attention. “We currently don’t have any vacancies in ultrasound, but within MRI and CT, we have four and five vacancies respectively. Nuclear medicine also has about four or five openings,” Krywionek explained.

Despite the hospital’s overall vacancy rate hovering around 5%, the situation within the DI department is more pronounced, with vacancies exceeding 10%. Krywionek highlighted the ongoing difficulties in recruiting qualified staff, particularly because there is no Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) training program available in Windsor.

“We try to attract talent from all across Ontario,” she noted. “We have good uptake with students, but this remains a priority area across the province.” As part of the recruitment strategy, positions need to be filled at both the Ouellette and Met campuses of the hospital.

Windsor Regional Hospital is exploring various strategies to enhance its recruitment efforts. Krywionek mentioned that the hospital has been encouraged by the response to its recent initiatives, as the number of vacancies is gradually decreasing. “We are trying some creative solutions,” she added.
