A significant weather system is impacting Quebec, bringing a combination of rain, snow, and sleet across various regions as the week begins. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), this mixed precipitation is expected to persist, particularly on Monday.

In Montreal, the transition from snow on Sunday to rain this morning will be short-lived, with flurries anticipated to return later in the day. ECCC forecasts that residents could see several centimetres of snow accumulate by Tuesday. In Quebec City, approximately 15 millimetres of rain is expected before snow returns overnight into Tuesday.

Winter Weather Warnings in Effect

Northern regions of Quebec are preparing for heavier snowfall, with several warnings and special weather statements currently issued. The agency predicts that areas such as Charlevoix, Côte-Nord, and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean could receive between 10 to 20 centimetres of snow, with some locations possibly experiencing higher accumulations. In Bas-Saint-Laurent, nearly 10 centimetres of snow is anticipated.

The adverse weather conditions have already led to several road accidents and power outages across the province. As of early Monday, nearly 10,000 addresses were without power, as reported by Hydro-Quebec, particularly affecting the regions of Montérégie, Laurentians, and Chaudière-Appalaches.

As the winter season approaches, the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is urging motorists to exercise caution on the roads, especially since the deadline for winter tire installation is not until December 1.

This combination of winter weather poses challenges for residents and travelers alike as they navigate the changing conditions. The situation remains dynamic, and authorities advise staying updated with the latest forecasts and warnings from ECCC.
