Stellantis to Hire 1,500 Workers at Windsor Plant, Transfers Allowed
The automaker Stellantis has announced plans to hire 1,500 workers at its Windsor Assembly Plant as it prepares to reintroduce a third shift. According to a spokesperson, interviews and hiring processes are currently underway, with the new shift expected to commence in early 2026. This significant hiring effort reflects the company’s strategy to meet anticipated demand for vehicles produced at the Windsor facility.
The Windsor Assembly Plant, known for manufacturing various models, including the Chrysler Pacifica and the new Dodge Charger Scat Pack, previously operated on three shifts until July 2020. The addition of the third shift is seen as a response to increasing market interest, particularly for the Chrysler Pacifica, which is available in several configurations, including internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions. The plant also produces the latest Dodge Charger, which will feature a new Sixpack engine for its 2026 models.
Stellantis has made provisions for current employees at its Brampton Assembly Plant, which is currently idled, allowing them to transfer to openings at the Windsor facility. This move aims to provide job security and leverage existing talent within the company.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his enthusiasm for the return of the third shift and the creation of new jobs. “I’m thrilled to welcome the return of a third shift and another 1,500 jobs at Stellantis’s plant in Windsor,” he stated in a post on X. Ford emphasized that this decision reflects confidence in the local workforce and the broader economic strategy for Ontario.
Initially, reports indicated that Stellantis would create 1,400 positions, but the company later clarified that the total would be 1,500. This hiring initiative is a positive sign for the local economy, which has faced challenges in recent years, particularly during the pandemic.
As Stellantis prepares for this expansion, the Windsor Assembly Plant is poised to play a critical role in the company’s production strategy, ensuring that it meets the growing demand for its popular models. The anticipated return to a full operational capacity underscores the company’s commitment to its workforce and the automotive market’s recovery.
The decision to expand hiring and reintroduce a third shift highlights Stellantis’s proactive approach in navigating changing market dynamics while supporting the local economy through job creation. With a renewed focus on production, the automaker is setting the stage for a robust future in Windsor.
