KPU Students Launch Unique Beers at Langley’s CAMP Beer Co.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) students have introduced their own line of craft beers, launching two new varieties each month at CAMP Beer Co. in Langley, British Columbia. This initiative not only showcases the students’ brewing skills but also provides a platform for them to gain hands-on experience in the craft beverage industry.
The collaboration between KPU and CAMP Beer Co. began in October 2023, as part of KPU’s brewing program. Students have been actively involved in the entire brewing process, from recipe development to production. This practical experience is invaluable, as it equips them with the skills necessary for careers in the growing craft beer sector.
Each month, the students unveil two distinct beer varieties. The first offerings have received positive feedback from local patrons, emphasizing the quality and creativity of the brews. The partnership aims to strengthen the relationship between academia and the local business community, providing students with real-world applications for their studies.
Building Skills and Community Engagement
In addition to honing their brewing techniques, students are learning about marketing and distribution. By collaborating with CAMP Beer Co., they have a chance to understand the business side of brewing, which is essential for anyone looking to thrive in this competitive industry.
Local customers have expressed enthusiasm for the student-created beers, appreciating the fresh flavors and innovative approaches. One patron noted, “It’s exciting to try beers that are crafted by the next generation of brewers. You can really taste the passion and creativity in each sip.”
The partnership also aims to foster community engagement. By involving students in local events and promotions, KPU and CAMP Beer Co. are cultivating a sense of pride and connection within Langley. This initiative not only benefits the students but strengthens the local economy by drawing attention to both the university’s programs and the craft beer scene.
The Future of Student Brewing
Looking ahead, KPU plans to expand this initiative by introducing more unique beers that reflect seasonal ingredients and local flavors. Students are encouraged to experiment with various brewing techniques, allowing for a diverse range of products that cater to different tastes.
This collaboration stands as a testament to the growing relationship between education and industry. By providing students with practical opportunities, KPU is preparing them for successful careers while simultaneously enriching the local community’s beverage offerings. The success of this program may inspire similar partnerships elsewhere, highlighting the potential for student-led innovation in the craft beverage market.
The KPU-CAMP Beer Co. collaboration represents an exciting intersection of education, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, setting a benchmark for future endeavors in the craft brewing industry.
