KPU Students Launch Innovative Beer Varieties at Local Pub
Students from Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) have made their mark on the craft beer scene with the introduction of unique beer varieties at CAMP Beer Co. in Langley, British Columbia. This collaboration, launched in October 2023, features two new student-created brews every month, showcasing the creativity and skills of aspiring brewers.
The partnership aims to provide KPU students with real-world experience in the brewing industry while allowing them to experiment with various styles and flavors. Each beer is crafted under the guidance of experienced professionals at CAMP Beer Co., giving students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical setting.
The initiative not only highlights the students’ brewing talents but also fosters a connection between the university and local businesses. By featuring the students’ creations, CAMP Beer Co. enhances its menu and draws in patrons eager to taste the latest offerings.
“This collaboration is a fantastic way for students to gain hands-on experience,” said Dr. Sandra Lee, head of KPU’s Brewing and Brewery Operations program. “It allows them to engage with the community and see how their skills translate into a real product.”
The first two brews to hit the taps include a refreshing pale ale and a rich stout, both of which have garnered positive feedback from patrons. The pale ale is noted for its bright citrus notes, while the stout offers a robust flavor profile, appealing to a variety of beer enthusiasts.
KPU students are involved in every step of the brewing process, from recipe development to marketing. This multifaceted approach equips them with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, preparing them for future careers in brewing and beyond.
The program reflects the growing trend of collaboration between educational institutions and local businesses, particularly in the burgeoning craft beer sector. As craft brewing continues to gain popularity, initiatives like this not only support student learning but also contribute to the local economy.
The monthly release of new beers is expected to attract both KPU students and local residents, creating a vibrant atmosphere at CAMP Beer Co. and highlighting the importance of community engagement in the brewing industry.
As the program progresses, KPU plans to expand its offerings, with students eager to explore innovative flavors and brewing techniques. This initiative not only celebrates the art of brewing but also serves as a platform for students to express their creativity and passion for craft beer.
With this exciting venture, KPU students are not just brewing beer; they are brewing connections, experiences, and future opportunities in the craft beer landscape.
