Edmonton Welcomes New $6 Million Jewish Community Centre

A new Jewish community centre is set to open in Edmonton, marking the first such facility in the city since 2012. Located at 14205-109 Avenue, the centre will serve as a hub for cultural and community programming, providing much-needed space for gatherings and events.
The renovations for the centre are estimated to cost $6 million, with $1 million coming from the Alberta government’s community facility enhancement program grant. The Jewish Federation of Edmonton is spearheading the project, aiming to create a welcoming environment for members of the community.
Stacey Leavitt-Wright, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, expressed the significance of this new space. “We have not had a central gathering space for our community for 15 years now. We’ve been making do by using rental spaces and holding events in people’s homes or in synagogues,” she stated. Leavitt-Wright emphasized the growing Jewish population in Alberta, noting that many individuals are seeking a place where they can come together.
“Our community has been here for over 100 years, and this new centre signifies that we are here for 100 years and counting, with more to come,” she added. The facility will be fully accessible, featuring an elevator and ramp to ensure inclusivity for all community members.
The Jewish Federation of Edmonton is optimistic that the centre will be completed by this time next year, which would provide a much-anticipated venue for cultural events, educational programs, and social gatherings. As the project progresses, community members are eager to see the revitalization of a central space that has been absent for over a decade.
This initiative not only reflects the resilience of the local Jewish community but also highlights its commitment to fostering connections and cultural continuity in Edmonton.
