Amazon.com Inc. has introduced a new private-label grocery brand, named Amazon Grocery, designed to appeal to cost-conscious consumers. The brand features a variety of grocery items, predominantly priced below US$5, in response to heightened inflationary pressures affecting shoppers’ budgets. The announcement was made on March 6, 2024, and the products will be available online as well as in brick-and-mortar Amazon Fresh stores.

Jason Buechel, the chief of Amazon’s grocery division, emphasized that the brand aims to provide over 1,000 quality grocery items that do not sacrifice taste or quality. He stated, “During a time when consumers are particularly price-conscious, Amazon Grocery delivers more than 1,000 quality grocery items across all categories that don’t compromise on quality or taste – from fresh food items to crave-worthy snacks and pantry essentials – all at low, competitive prices that help customers stretch their grocery budgets further.”

The launch of Amazon Grocery aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to expand its presence in the grocery sector, which includes a robust online grocery business that offers household staples, cleaning products, and more. Over recent years, Amazon has also diversified into physical retail, recognizing that many consumers prefer to shop for groceries in person. This strategy has included the establishment of Whole Foods Market locations as well as various convenience stores and Amazon Fresh supermarkets, which gained traction during the pandemic.
