The Cheslatta Carrier Nation officially inaugurated its new Community Hall and Administration Building in Danskin on September 25, 2025. This significant development marks a pivotal moment for the Southside community, providing a centralized space for both governance and social gatherings. The 27,000-square-foot facility, located at 26999 Keefes Landing Rd., features a community hall capable of accommodating up to 400 individuals for various events.

During the grand opening ceremony, attendees celebrated with a ribbon-cutting, traditional drumming, and performances by local bands Dead Horse Hill and Legusty. The community was invited to tour the new building, which serves as a vital hub for the administration of the Nation.

The completion of this facility comes approximately two years after a groundbreaking ceremony held on May 31, 2023. At that event, Chief Corrina Leween expressed her enthusiasm for the project, calling it “a historical moment for Cheslatta and a much overdue project.” Previously, the Nation’s offices were scattered across six different sites, including an aging school constructed in the 1950s. “This new building means we will all be together under one roof,” Leween stated, highlighting the importance of unification for administrative functions.

The project was led by contractor Jonathan Burkholder of Marmot Builders, who collaborated with local tradespeople to bring the vision to fruition. The facility not only enhances the operational efficiency of the Nation’s governance but also enriches the Southside community by providing a modern venue for gatherings and events.

The opening of the Community Hall is expected to serve as a catalyst for further engagement and collaboration within the area, strengthening community ties and fostering a sense of belonging. With this new central hub, the Cheslatta Carrier Nation is poised to enhance its administrative capabilities while also offering a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.
