Remembering Love: Carolyn Reflects on Life with Skippy

On October 6, 2025, Carolyn Chisholm commemorated the 20th anniversary of her husband, Walter Chisholm Jr., affectionately known as Skippy. Carolyn’s heartfelt reflections reveal a life filled with love, cherished memories, and the challenges she has faced since Skippy’s passing.
Carolyn shared fond memories of their first date, which took place at the Princess Theater, followed by a meal at J.J.’s where they enjoyed red apple milkshakes and burgers. “We talked and laughed a lot,” Carolyn recalled. “When it was time to say goodnight, I expected a kiss, but Skippy offered his hand instead. I thought, what a gentleman. I knew I would fall in love with him.” Their journey continued as they married and welcomed four children: Wayne, Tammy, Shane, and Channa, establishing a family rooted in love and faith.
As she reflected on the years they spent together, Carolyn expressed gratitude for the time she had with Skippy. “I thank Lord Jesus for giving me the time we had together,” she noted. Their lives were not without difficulties, particularly during Skippy’s illness, which altered their daily existence. Nevertheless, Carolyn emphasized the importance of faith, stating, “God has a plan for all of us. When we believe in him and have faith, we will be part of that plan.”
In her message, Carolyn also shared updates on her life following Skippy’s passing. She described a tough winter, filled with heavy snowfall, and her preparations for the camping season at Marks Bay, where she celebrated 15 years of cherished memories with her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Mary. “I will never forget what you have done for me,” she expressed, highlighting their support during challenging times.
Carolyn announced her recent move to a new two-bedroom apartment, facilitated by a special friend. “As we age, keeping up with home maintenance becomes harder,” she explained. “This move is my last one, and I know I am in my forever home until God calls me.” She expressed excitement about starting her Christmas baking and crafting, keeping herself engaged and active.
The impact of family remains strong, as Carolyn shared that their children and grandchildren continue to thrive. “They still talk about the Papa star when they look into the sky at night,” she revealed. At the campground, Carolyn enjoys participating in games and tournaments, fostering a sense of community among friends. “They all take very good care of me, and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart,” she added.
As she prepares to celebrate her anniversary with Skippy on June 17, Carolyn holds onto the memories of their love. Each year, she visits the location in Gros Cap where he proposed, reflecting on their shared history. “I take our wedding picture and have a date night with you,” she shared, emphasizing the joy of reliving those special moments.
Concluding her message, Carolyn thanked her friends for taking the time to read her memories. “I want to share my story until next year, God willing,” she stated, expressing her hopes for the future. At nearly 80 years old, she aims to continue camping and cherishing her vibrant life. “I love you, Skippy,” she wrote affectionately. “I still put flowers on my car in memory of you, my darling.”
Through her heartfelt tribute, Carolyn honors the enduring bond she shared with Skippy, illustrating a life filled with love, resilience, and gratitude.
