Jordan Peterson Faces Health Crisis, Family Shares Updates

Psychologist Jordan Peterson experienced severe health challenges this summer, spending nearly a month in intensive care due to pneumonia and sepsis. His daughter, Mikhaila Fuller, shared the family’s emotional journey in a recent video posted on YouTube, detailing the struggles they faced during this difficult time.
Fuller described how her father, aged 62, was hospitalized and treated in the intensive care unit after his diagnosis. She indicated that he had been battling a range of neurological issues, which the family attributes to chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) stemming from years of mould exposure. “This summer has been exceedingly difficult,” Fuller stated, explaining that Peterson had endured symptoms of neuropathy and weakness over the past few years, which worsened after he cleaned out his late father’s basement earlier this year.
The family faced a particularly challenging September, as they were unable to communicate with Peterson for much of the month. Fuller expressed relief that after almost 30 days in the ICU, he was moved to a less urgent floor. “Praise God for that,” she said, underlining the gravity of the situation.
While there is cautious optimism about Peterson’s recovery, Fuller acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his health. “We’re still in the midst of this but now we’re seeing improvements daily,” she noted. The complexity of his condition is compounded by an inability to tolerate most medications, which leads to severe paradoxical reactions and limits treatment options.
In her emotional address, Fuller also shared a parallel struggle involving her newborn daughter, Audrey. Coinciding with Peterson’s hospitalization in August, Audrey was also taken to the hospital by ambulance. The infant, previously hospitalized for pulmonary hypertension, has since stabilized. Fuller recounted the overwhelming nature of the past few months, saying, “Every single day this summer and now fall has been like watching a movie.”
Peterson has been open about his health battles in the past, detailing his struggles with an anti-anxiety medication known as benzodiazepine. Following his prescription in early 2017, he faced severe withdrawal symptoms and neurological damage when attempting to discontinue its use. After spending significant time in hospitals around the world in 2020, Peterson returned to Toronto, hopeful that his health challenges were behind him.
The family continues to navigate these tumultuous times with faith. Fuller conveyed gratitude to supporters, emphasizing their reliance on spiritual strength. “We’re relying heavily on the Lord through this and seeing miracles around us,” she said.
As they look forward, Fuller expressed hope that her father’s condition would continue to improve, stating, “It looks like — and we’re praying that — things are headed in the right direction.”
