Victoria Cut-A-Thon Empowers Young Cancer Patients with Care

On November 14, 2023, the Lizzy Lee & Me Salon in Victoria will host a Cut-A-Thon designed to support young cancer patients. This day-long event will raise both funds and hair donations for the Wigs for Kids BC program, which provides free custom wigs to children undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the salon, which caters to children aged 0 to 14. According to Breanne Epoch, the current owner of the salon, the fundraiser honors the legacy of Lisette Scabar, the original owner who was diagnosed with cancer in her early 30s. Epoch recounted how Scabar’s personal experience with hair loss inspired her to support others facing similar challenges.
“Lisette wanted to give back to this incredible organization,” Epoch said. “Her husband shared that wearing a wig for the first time made her feel good, and she aimed to ensure that other children could experience that same sense of comfort.”
The Cut-A-Thon will feature more than just haircuts. Young attendees can enjoy activities such as princess and superhero makeovers, professional face painting, and even a hot chocolate and donut bar. Participation in these activities requires a pledge of $50 or more, which will contribute directly to the Wigs for Kids BC program.
Epoch, who acquired the salon in April 2023, aims to attract approximately 250 guests for this inaugural event. She emphasized that anyone wishing to support the cause is welcome to join, regardless of their ability to donate hair.
At the heart of this initiative lies a profound commitment to restoring dignity and confidence to young cancer patients. Epoch reflected on Scabar’s vision, stating, “Lisette believed that when she lost her hair, putting on a wig changed her perspective. Everyone wants to feel beautiful and normal, to fit in. Providing children with the opportunity to wear a wig and feel confident is a beautiful thing.”
To schedule an appointment for the Cut-A-Thon, interested individuals can call 250-590-5568 or visit the salon’s website at lizzyleeandme.com. The salon is located at Hillside Mall, 1644 Hillside Ave. This event not only seeks to raise awareness and funds but also aims to create a supportive community environment for families navigating the challenges of childhood illness.
