Sault College Achieves Accreditation for Nursing Programs

Sault College has officially received accreditation for its standalone Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and Bridge programs from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). This milestone signifies the college’s commitment to providing high-quality nursing education independent of prior partnerships with Laurentian University.
Achieving CASN accreditation involves meeting stringent national standards, ensuring that Sault College’s programs maintain excellence in curriculum, faculty, and student support. The comprehensive review process included a self-evaluation, stakeholder engagement, and extensive consultations with students and faculty.
Rebecca Keown, Dean of Health at Sault College, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “This accreditation reaffirms Sault College’s commitment to fostering the next generation of expert, compassionate health-care professionals.” She highlighted the college’s focus on student experience and individualized support as crucial in preparing students for successful careers in nursing.
Details of the New Programs
The standalone Honours BScN program features early and consistent clinical placements, small class sizes, and access to advanced simulation labs. These elements are designed to equip students with the skills necessary for real-world nursing excellence.
Additionally, the RPN-to-BScN Bridge program allows registered practical nurses (RPNs) to complete a one-semester bridge, enabling them to enter Year Three of the four-year BScN. This pathway supports career advancement for working professionals in the nursing field.
Graduates of these new programs will meet the entry-to-practice competencies set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). The first cohort of the standalone BScN program is expected to graduate in June 2026, with enhanced support systems in place to ensure student success.
Newly accredited nursing programs are also eligible for the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant, which provides significant financial assistance to students who commit to practicing in Ontario post-graduation. This support aims to address the local demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
Commitment to Community and Quality Education
Sault College has invested in innovative facilities, including state-of-the-art simulation labs equipped with lifelike mannequins and experienced nurse educators who foster a supportive learning environment. This commitment to quality education is intended to create a steady pipeline of skilled health care workers for the local community and the province of Ontario.
In conclusion, Sault College’s achievement of CASN accreditation highlights its dedication to continuous improvement and academic leadership in the nursing field. The college extends gratitude to its faculty, staff, students, and community partners who contributed to this important recognition, reinforcing its mission to deliver education and training that meets the highest national standards.
