NHL Rumors: Canadiens Eye Nazem Kadri as Trade Possibility
Nazem Kadri’s name has surfaced prominently in recent discussions surrounding potential trades in the NHL. The veteran forward, currently under contract with the Calgary Flames until July 2029 for a total of $7 million per season, could find himself in a new jersey if the right offer comes along. According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Flames are likely to explore trade options if they align with both the club’s and the player’s interests.
Canadiens Show Interest in Kadri
LeBrun has indicated that the Montreal Canadiens could be an intriguing destination for Kadri. He stated, “In my opinion, the Canadiens could be an interesting team for Kadri.” This speculation arises as the NHL trade deadline approaches, which is set for March 2026. However, it remains uncertain whether Kadri would be willing to leave Calgary or if the Canadiens are prepared to pursue him.
While Kadri’s offensive capabilities are recognized, questions linger about his fit with the Canadiens. The team is currently in a rebuilding phase, and Kadri, who is 35 years old, does not align with the younger demographic that the organization is cultivating. General Manager Kent Hughes may not be inclined to invest heavily in an aging second-line center when the team is still finding its footing this season.
Trade Speculations Heat Up
As the season progresses, the urgency for teams to make strategic decisions increases. Kadri’s contract, initially viewed as a potential liability, is being reassessed as teams recognize that its weight diminishes over time. LeBrun emphasized that the longer Kadri remains on the roster, the less daunting his contract becomes for potential suitors.
Despite the buzz, some analysts caution against rushing to conclusions. The Canadiens may not be ready to commit to a significant trade for a player like Kadri, especially given their current standings and future plans. Conversations around trades often evolve quickly, and what seems improbable today could change as the season unfolds.
With the leadership of seasoned figures like LeBrun and Hughes navigating these discussions, the landscape of the NHL trade market is ever-changing. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Kadri finds a new home and how the Canadiens position themselves as the deadline approaches.
