Canada Launches Major Projects Office to Accelerate Infrastructure

Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson announced that Canada’s new major projects office will officially launch this week. This initiative is pivotal for the federal government’s strategy to encourage companies to develop large-scale infrastructure across the country. The establishment of this office follows the rapid passage of the major projects bill through Parliament in June 2025, designed to streamline approval processes for substantial industrial projects.
The new legislation mandates the creation of the major projects office, which is essential for the government to begin approving corporate plans. Hodgson made these remarks during a speech at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin, emphasizing the urgency of enhancing infrastructure to boost energy exports from Canada.
In his address, Hodgson aggressively promoted Canadian energy resources, such as liquefied natural gas and hydrogen, to German businesses. He underscored the importance of speed in infrastructure development, stating that timely advancements are necessary for Canada to increase its energy export capabilities.
Looking ahead, Prime Minister Mark Carney indicated that the government plans to announce new investments in port infrastructure within the next two weeks. This initiative aims to further support the growth of the energy sector and enhance Canada’s position in the international market.
The launch of the major projects office is a significant step in the government’s efforts to facilitate industrial growth and meet the increasing demand for energy resources, particularly in Europe. With this new framework in place, Canada aims to position itself as a reliable supplier of energy, responding to global market needs.
As the government moves forward with its plans, the focus remains on creating a conducive environment for business investment and fostering relationships with international partners. The developments in Berlin highlight the government’s proactive approach to securing new opportunities for Canadian energy exports, reinforcing its commitment to economic growth and infrastructure development.
