Pine Trail REIT Secures Lease, Advances Hospital Development

Pine Trail REIT has announced a significant development in its operations by finalizing a three-year lease with a group of family physicians at The Picton Clinic, located at 389 Main Street in Prince Edward County. This move reinforces the clinic’s status as a vital component of primary healthcare in the region. The addition of this lease highlights a growing need for modern, community-oriented medical facilities in smaller markets.
The physician group, composed entirely of women, embodies a modern approach to healthcare delivery that focuses on collaborative, patient-centered care. Their commitment to continuity of care reflects a shift in how healthcare is being provided, particularly in underserved areas. As healthcare demands continue to evolve, securing such tenants is crucial for the long-term sustainability of facilities like The Picton Clinic.
Hospital Project Progress
Adjacent to The Picton Clinic, construction is underway for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, a next-generation healthcare facility set to become the first mass timber hospital in North America. The hospital’s framework will be constructed using Canadian black spruce sourced from northern Quebec, aligning with sustainability goals.
Currently, construction is approximately 35% complete, with the anticipated opening scheduled for 2027. The final delivery of the project is expected in early 2028. This hospital aims to enhance healthcare access and quality in Prince Edward County, addressing community needs in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
Andrew Shapack, Chief Executive of Pine Trail REIT, emphasized the importance of these developments for local healthcare infrastructure. “We are committed to providing modern medical spaces that address the evolving needs of communities,” he stated.
As Pine Trail REIT continues to expand its portfolio, this lease agreement and the hospital’s construction illustrate a proactive approach to meet the healthcare demands of today and into the future. With both projects underway, the REIT is positioned to play a significant role in shaping healthcare delivery in the region.
This announcement serves as a reminder of the ongoing transformation occurring in healthcare, particularly in smaller communities like Prince Edward County. As the REIT prepares for the future, local residents can look forward to improved healthcare options and facilities.
