Belle River District High School Engages Community Through Winter Events
Belle River District High School (BRDHS) has fostered a vibrant winter season with a series of events aimed at connecting current and future students with the wider community. These initiatives not only highlight the school’s commitment to inclusivity but also aim to support families in need through various charitable efforts.
Community Engagement Through Winter Events
On December 18, 2023, BRDHS hosted a community skate at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, inviting current students to join in the festivities. The event culminated in the highly anticipated annual Winter Warmth charity hockey game, where the Nobles boys hockey team faced off against the Erie Migrations Coyotes. Community members, including prospective students, were encouraged to attend and support the teams. Attendees were also asked to bring warm clothing and canned goods, contributing to local families in need during the winter season.
Earlier in November, on the 28th and December 4th, local elementary students experienced a taste of high school life by participating in the “Noble for a Day” program. This initiative allowed students from Lakeshore Discovery School to engage in various classes, including Technological Design, where they designed Noble stickers, and Computer Technologies, where they explored microbit technology. “Grade 9 day was really fun,” expressed Aleena Holmes, a participant who enjoyed meeting teachers and fellow students.
Traditions that Spread Holiday Cheer
Another highlight of the winter was the annual Noble Holiday Trolley, which took place on December 3, 2023. The school’s band, drama students, and dance team traveled to several local schools, including Centennial Central Public School and Belle River Public School, to spread festive cheer. Performances included seasonal music, a play promoting kindness, and dance showcases. Music teacher and band director, Mr. Walstedt, noted, “The excitement from the crowd was contagious and a great time was had by all.” The Holiday Trolley tradition, established in 2017, continues to be a source of joy for younger students.
The excitement surrounding these events reflects the school’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community. On November 25, 2023, BRDHS held a Grade 9 Open House, welcoming future Noble families. Current students engaged prospective students in activities and trivia, while parents explored the school’s offerings and spoke with teachers. Ms. Moison, head of the guidance department, emphasized, “The event captured the genuine sense of community and care that makes Belle River High School an amazing place to learn and grow.”
With such a dynamic start to the winter season, it is evident that BRDHS is dedicated to engaging its community and nurturing relationships with future students. As the year progresses, the Noble family looks forward to continuing these traditions and welcoming new members into their vibrant community.
