Brandon University Hosts Events Celebrating Arts and Community
Brandon University is hosting a series of engaging events this week, featuring local artists and community activities. The highlight is a presentation by Kevin McKenzie, an assistant professor at the university, who will speak today at 11:30 a.m.. McKenzie, who has over 30 years of experience in the arts, has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. His contributions are recognized, with pieces in prominent collections, including the National Gallery of Canada.
The university is also buzzing with excitement as the Healthy Living Centre prepares for the Holiday Hoops Camp tonight, running from 18:00 to 20:00. This inclusive event invites youth from Grades 3 to 10 of all experience levels to participate. Registration is available through a monetary donation or by bringing a new, unwrapped toy. Throughout the week, several musical ensembles will showcase their talents in final performances for the fall term. The BU Brass Ensemble will host a Christmas concert tonight at 19:30 in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. On Wednesday, the BU Concert Choir and BU Chorale will perform at Knox United Church, starting at 19:30. A visual art student showcase is also taking place this week at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art, featuring works from students across four different courses. The gallery is open from 12:30 to 16:30, Wednesday through Saturday.
Additionally, Brandon University Theatre will present “Mother Courage and her Children,” a dark comedy with music, running from Wednesday to Sunday. Evening performances begin at 19:00 from Wednesday to Saturday, with a matinee at 14:00 on Sunday. More show and ticket information can be accessed at Events.BrandonU.ca.
At Assiniboine College, Storytelling Week is underway, inviting participants to hear personal stories from elders and speakers. This event runs from Monday to Friday and aims to highlight the significance of storytelling in various cultures. More details can be found at assiniboine.net/events.
The college is also hosting a sold-out Holiday Buffet this week, along with a Trades Program Mixer scheduled for December 4, 2025, from 16:00 to 17:30 at the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology. Lastly, the Alumni Association is gearing up for its annual Retiree Holiday Coffee Party on December 10, beginning at 09:30 at the Victoria Avenue East campus. This event promises to be a heartwarming gathering for alumni.
Brandon University and Assiniboine College’s initiatives this week reflect a commitment to community engagement, showcasing the talents of students and fostering connections among residents.
