Brandon University Hosts Holiday Events and Performances This Week
Brandon University is bustling with activities this week, offering students and the community a variety of events and performances. Among the highlights is the presentation by Kevin McKenzie, an assistant professor at the university, who will speak today at 11:30 a.m. His artistic work has been showcased nationally and internationally over a career spanning 30 years, with pieces included in collections at the National Gallery of Canada and the MacKenzie Art Gallery.
In addition to the speaker series, the university’s sports teams, known as the Bobcats, have completed their first-half schedule. However, the Healthy Living Centre remains active tonight, hosting the Holiday Hoops Camp from 18:00 to 20:00. This co-ed camp is open to youth in Grades 3 to 10, welcoming participants of all skill levels. Registration requires either a monetary donation or the donation of a new, unwrapped toy, a gesture that supports local charitable efforts. More information can be found at GoBobcats.ca.
The musical community at Brandon University is also alive with activity. The BU Brass Ensemble is set to perform a Christmas concert this evening at 19:30 in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Following that, the BU Concert Choir and the BU Chorale will present a concert at Knox United Church on Wednesday, starting at 19:30. The week will culminate in the BU Piano Ensemble’s fall-term finale on Thursday at 16:30, also at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Interested attendees can visit BrandonU.ca/Music for further details about these performances.
Art enthusiasts can explore a showcase featuring student works at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art, where pieces from four different courses will be on display. The gallery is open from 12:30 to 16:30, Wednesday through Saturday.
The theatre department at Brandon University is presenting “Mother Courage and her Children,” a dark comedy with music, from Wednesday to Sunday. Performances take place at 19:00, and a matinee is scheduled for 14:00 on Sunday at the Evans Theatre. Ticket and showtime information can be accessed at Events.BrandonU.ca.
