The Byron Public Library will close its doors on September 1, 2023, in observance of the Labor Day holiday, resuming regular hours on September 2, 2023. This adjustment in schedule allows patrons to plan their visits accordingly.

On September 3, 2023, the library will host an engaging program titled “The American Civil War,” presented by historian Jim Gibbons. Scheduled for 15:00, this event aims to delve into one of the bloodiest conflicts in American history. Gibbons will explore pivotal events, significant battles, and the profound changes the war brought to the nation, including the staggering loss of over 700,000 soldiers. Creative Studio Offers Hands-On Activities

The library’s Creative Studio is open to the public, providing opportunities for visitors to engage in various crafts. Available on Sunday afternoons and two evenings a week, the studio features free crafts on tables, while some projects may require a nominal fee for materials. Middle school and high school students can utilize certain materials while accompanied by an adult or during designated Teen Time.

The Creative Studio operates on the following schedule:
– Sunday: 13:00 to 17:00
– Monday: 09:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00
– Tuesday: 09:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00
– Wednesday: 09:00 to 13:00
– Thursday: 09:00 to 13:00
It remains closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

Utilize the Library’s Digital Resources

The Byron Public Library encourages patrons to take advantage of its digital resources. By downloading the PrairieCat app, users can access their library accounts directly from their mobile devices. The app allows patrons to view their checkouts, renew items, and search the library catalog. Additionally, it offers a digital version of library cards for convenient access.

For those who prefer in-person visits, the library provides curbside delivery services. Patrons can place holds online at byronlibrary.org or by calling 815-234-5107. Once holds are ready, library staff will confirm by phone or email. Upon arrival, customers can call the library, and staff will bring their checked-out items outside, accompanied by a receipt detailing due dates.
