Construction Begins on New Joint-Use School in Regina

Construction has officially commenced on a long-awaited joint-use elementary school in the Harbour Landing neighbourhood of Regina. Situated on an 11-acre site at the intersection of Gordon Road and Campbell Street, this new educational facility is designed to serve approximately 850 students, including 500 students from Regina Public Schools and 350 students from Regina Catholic Schools. Additionally, the school will offer 90 new childcare spaces to support local families.
In preparation for this project, preliminary work involving road improvements and utility connections was completed last year, paving the way for the construction. The Government of Saskatchewan has set a target opening date for the school in the fall of 2027.
Addressing Overcrowding Issues
The Harbour Landing neighbourhood has faced significant challenges regarding school overcrowding in recent years. In 2023, hundreds of students were relocated from their local school to Ethel Milliken School due to the original facility nearing its legal capacity limits. This new joint-use school aims to alleviate some of these pressures by providing additional space for students in the rapidly growing area.
The provincial government has indicated further commitment to addressing educational needs in Regina by announcing plans for two additional joint-use schools in The Towns neighbourhood, located in the eastern part of the city. While no specific construction dates have been provided for these future projects, the government’s focus on expanding educational infrastructure highlights the increasing demand for school facilities in Regina.
As the construction of the Harbour Landing school progresses, it is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the educational demands of the community. The initiative not only reflects the government’s commitment to improving local education but also aims to provide essential support for families in the area seeking childcare options. More updates on the project’s development will be shared as they become available.
