DeKalb Economic Development Breakfast to Foster Community Partnerships
The DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) is set to host its annual breakfast event on December 2, 2023, aimed at fostering connections among community leaders, educators, and business partners. Scheduled from 08:30 to 10:30 at Faranda’s, located at 302 Grove Street in DeKalb, the gathering will provide insights into regional economic momentum while promoting networking opportunities across the county.
Participants can look forward to a significant discussion titled “Collaboration and Connection in Action: Powering Economic Growth and Strengthening Communities.” This fireside chat will commence at 09:15 and will feature prominent leaders from local higher education institutions, including Lisa Freeman, President of Northern Illinois University; Laurie Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College; and Brian Knetl, President of Waubonsee Community College. Melissa Amedeo, Executive Director of DCEDC, will moderate the session.
The discussion will focus on how these colleges collaborate to align local professional development with broader statewide and regional economic impacts. They will also strategize on addressing emerging opportunities in the community. Amedeo emphasized the importance of educational investment, stating, “When we invest in learning at every level, beginning with pre-Kindergarten, we have the power to create opportunities, not just for individuals, but for our entire community.”
Amedeo is expected to present the organization’s annual report at 10:00, providing key accomplishments and updates on major economic development initiatives. This report will also outline priorities leading into 2026.
For those interested in attending, more information and registration details can be found at DCEDC.org/events. This breakfast not only aims to strengthen partnerships but is also poised to enhance the long-term economic stability and growth of the DeKalb community.
