The DeKalb Public Library is set to host a free workshop on October 26, 2023, aimed at teaching participants how to repair their personal books. Scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in the library’s lower-level Zimmerman Meeting Room, this introductory session is designed for individuals looking to enhance their book maintenance skills.

During the workshop, attendees will learn a variety of book repair techniques. Participants will be guided on how to perform simple fixes, assess damage, and even photocopy missing pages to integrate them back into their books. The techniques covered include reinforcing book corners, erasing pencil marks, tightening hinges, and preventing water damage. Additionally, the workshop will address issues such as torn pages, text alignment, and how to properly tip in a loose page.

It is important to note that the workshop is specifically for personal books; library materials will not be eligible for repair during this event. The session aims to empower individuals with the skills needed to preserve their personal collections.

No prior registration is required for attendance, making it accessible for all interested individuals. For additional information, participants can reach out via email to [email protected] or call 815-756-9568, extension 2150. This initiative by the DeKalb Public Library represents a valuable opportunity for community members to learn practical skills that can enhance the longevity of their cherished books.
