Engaging February Events for All Ages at Plano Public Library
The Plano Public Library has announced a diverse array of events for February 2024, catering to both children and adults. These programs offer creative, educational, and community-focused activities designed to engage participants of all ages. From writing workshops to yoga classes, the library aims to provide enriching experiences that foster learning and connection.
Adult and Teen Programs
The library will host a Writers Group on Thursdays, February 12 and 26, from 18:30 to 20:00. This gathering invites writers to share and discuss their work in a supportive environment. Participation is open to adults and high school students, with no registration required. Attendees can join in person or via Zoom using the meeting ID: 988 2555 0591 and passcode: 048559.
For those seeking relaxation, a yoga class with certified instructor Jen Penn will take place every Friday from 10:30 to 11:30. Scheduled for February 13, 20, and 27, these sessions aim to alleviate winter blues, improve mood, and reduce stress. Participants can bring their mats or utilize the library’s equipment. Registration is required for each class, allowing attendees to choose to attend one or multiple sessions.
On February 9, from 18:30 to 20:00, the class “Painting with Petite Palette – The Color of Joy” will allow participants to create an acrylic painting on canvas under the guidance of a skilled artist. This event is open to high school students and adults, with a fee of $15 payable at registration.
Additionally, individuals can receive technology assistance at the Technology Help Desk on February 10 from 12:00 to 13:00. Library visitors can consult technology expert Steve Goodwin to troubleshoot issues with personal devices. No registration is necessary for this drop-in service.
Another community-oriented event, New Life for Old Bags, will be held on February 14 from 10:30 to 12:00. Participants can contribute to a project that transforms plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. State Senator Sue Rezin will also hold traveling office hours at the library on February 17 from 12:30 to 14:00. Constituents are encouraged to stop by for assistance with navigating state and government agency issues, with no prior registration required.
A card-making class, focusing on creating Triangle Embossed Cards, is scheduled for February 17 from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants will make five handmade cards under the direction of instructor Jennifer Boring. Supplies, including envelopes, will be provided, and the class is open to adults, high school students, and children aged ten and older accompanied by an adult. A registration fee of $5 is required.
The Wednesday Book Club will meet on February 18 from 15:30 to 16:30 to discuss “The Year of What If” by Phaedra Patrick. The group welcomes newcomers and will explore various genres throughout the year. Books can be borrowed from the Checkout Desk.
Finally, the library offers a Knit and Crochet Group, meeting in person every Monday from 16:00 to 18:00, led by crochet artist Karen Perez. Participants of all ages are welcome, although children under ten must be accompanied by an adult. An additional virtual group meets via Zoom every Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00.
Children’s Programs
The library has also planned several engaging programs for children in February. Making Music, led by music teacher Jessica Ortega, will take place on February 9 from 10:30 to 11:10. This interactive class for children ages 0-5 includes singing, movement, and instrument play. Registration is required for this session.
For older children, the Pizza and Pages event on February 10 from 17:00 to 17:45 invites students in grades 7-9 to read and discuss a pre-selected book over pizza. Registration is necessary to participate.
Younger children can join the Hugs and Kisses Storytime on February 16, available at both 10:30 to 11:00 and 18:00 to 18:30. This program, designed for independent children aged 3-5, features stories, music, and crafts, with parents required to remain in the Kids’ Library during the session. Registration is mandatory.
Lastly, the Rhyme Time sessions will occur on Wednesdays, February 11, 18, 25, and March 4, 11, from 10:30 to 11:00 and 18:00 to 18:30. These interactive story times include songs, rhymes, and movement activities for children from birth to 36 months, with active participation from parents.
