Grace Tobias, a senior at Newman Central Catholic High School, has been recognized as the school’s Student of the Month for October. This accolade celebrates her dedication to academics and her active involvement in various extracurricular activities.

Academic Engagement and Future Aspirations

In her reflections on engaging courses, Tobias highlights her experience in English 101/103, taught by Mrs. Spencer. She describes the class as “rigorously engaging,” emphasizing the critical analysis of literature and the development of her writing skills. “The dissection of works we conduct paired with strengthening my own writing through various techniques has prompted my investment and inclusion time and time again,” she noted.

Looking ahead, Tobias is awaiting university decisions as she plans to attend a four-year institution, majoring in psychology. Her ambitions extend beyond her undergraduate studies; she aims to obtain a master’s degree and ultimately become a therapist. Additionally, she expresses a desire to embrace travel opportunities to enhance her understanding of the world.

Community Involvement and Leadership

Outside of the classroom, Tobias engages deeply with her community. One of her preferred volunteer activities is with the Penguin Project of the Sauk Valley, where she mentors children and young adults with special needs in musical productions. She appreciates the lessons of patience, kindness, and inclusivity that the program instills in its participants.

In addition to her volunteer work, Tobias serves as a house captain for the Loretto House within Newman’s inaugural John Henry Newman House System. This role allows her to plan activities and connect with a quarter of the student body daily, fostering camaraderie and unity among her peers. “The pride and unity that has been established is something I never expected to gain my senior year of high school, and I am so grateful for it,” she shared.

Tobias also recalls a particularly poignant moment from the school’s last football game of the season, which was part of the playoffs. Despite the team’s loss, she felt a strong sense of community support and love. “Cheering on the sidelines, despite the pouring rain, helped me reflect on my gratitude for being part of such a strong support system,” she explained.

As she contemplates her future, Tobias hopes to continue spreading love and originality in all her endeavors. “The future holds many uncertainties, but I can control myself and how I act toward others,” she stated. Her commitment to uplifting others through words and actions illustrates her desire to make a positive impact in her community. “Support is key to success, and I hope to help others succeed in any way I’m able to,” she concluded.

Grace Tobias stands as a testament to the values of dedication, community service, and leadership that Newman Central Catholic High School promotes among its students. Her journey reflects the spirit of engagement that the institution aims to instill in its pupils.
