Grundy Area Vocational Center Launches Aviation Program with Local Partners
Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) has announced a new aviation program aimed at high school students, marking a significant advancement in educational offerings within the region. This initiative, revealed on October 20, 2023, is a collaboration between GAVC, the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation. The program will provide students with comprehensive training in aeronautics, aviation maintenance, and flight science, preparing them for careers in the aerospace sector.
The partnership is designed to give students direct exposure to the aviation industry, allowing them to gain valuable insights and skills in a real-world setting. “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce,” stated Lance Copes, Director of Grundy Area Vocational Center. This program represents an important opportunity for students to engage with aviation professionals and observe operations at the Morris Municipal Airport.
Real-World Learning Experiences
Students participating in the program will not only attend classes but will also have the chance to engage in hands-on training. This practical experience could lead to industry-recognized certifications, enhancing their employability after graduation. The curriculum is tailored to cover various aspects of aviation, ensuring students are well-prepared for diverse career pathways.
The initiative has garnered support from local leaders, including Chris Brown, Mayor of Morris. He emphasized the importance of this program, stating, “We’re proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy.”
The aviation program not only aims to equip students with essential skills but also seeks to strengthen the local economy by fostering a new generation of aviation professionals.
