Horizon School Division Elects New Leadership Team for 2024
Horizon School Division No. 205 has appointed new leadership for its board of education during its annual organizational meeting held in Humboldt. Linda Mattock has been elected as the board chair, while Mark Fedak will serve as vice-chair for the upcoming year.
During the meeting, Mattock expressed gratitude to her fellow trustees for their support, stating, “I’m truly grateful to my fellow trustees for their support. It is an honour to serve as board chair alongside such a dedicated group of leaders.” She emphasized the board’s commitment to fostering the success and well-being of students, families, and staff within the division.
Mattock has been a trustee since 2016, representing Subdivision 2, which includes schools in Annaheim, Humboldt, Lake Lenore, Middle Lake, and St. Brieux. Fedak, who has also served as a trustee since 2016, represents Subdivision 4, which encompasses schools in Drake, Englefeld, Lanigan, Muenster, and Watson. He acknowledged the board’s confidence in him, stating, “I appreciate the trust the board has placed in me. I’m looking forward to continuing our work to support safe, caring learning environments and positive outcomes for every student in Horizon.”
The board paid tribute to outgoing chair Garth Anderson for his leadership over the past year, highlighting his contributions to the division. The organizational meeting is an annual requirement under The Education Act, 1995, and is crucial for electing table officers as well as addressing governance matters, including indemnity rates and incidental expenses.
Horizon’s Board of Education consists of 14 publicly elected trustees, each representing their respective subdivisions. This leadership transition marks a significant moment for the division as it aims to build on previous successes and tackle new challenges in the coming year. With a focus on collaboration and dedication, the newly elected officers are poised to make a positive impact in the educational landscape of Horizon School Division.
