Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) is set to launch a comprehensive 50-hour EKG Technician Certification Program starting on September 30, 2023. This initiative aims to equip students with the skills necessary to support healthcare professionals in identifying heart conditions through the performance of electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Program Details and Curriculum
The EKG Technician program offers a robust curriculum that includes instruction on the anatomy and physiology of the heart, along with essential medical terminology. Students will also explore ethical and legal aspects of patient care, electrocardiography techniques, and methods for conducting stress testing.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants will gain hands-on experience operating EKG equipment. The program incorporates clinical lab practices to ensure students are well-prepared for real-world applications in medical settings. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m., concluding on December 11, 2023.
Upon successful completion of the 20-session course, students will be eligible to take certification exams, enhancing their qualifications for roles in the healthcare sector.
