Join Garlic Growing Classes in October Across Three Counties

Residents of Will, Grundy, and Kankakee counties have the opportunity to enhance their gardening skills by participating in the upcoming “Grow Your Own Garlic” classes. These classes, scheduled for October, will be led by Nancy Kuhajda, a horticulture educator with the University of Illinois Extension.
Kuhajda’s sessions are part of her broader educational initiative titled “Horticulture Power Hours.” She emphasizes the importance of community engagement in gardening, stating, “These classes aim to empower individuals with the knowledge to cultivate their own food.”
The classes are set to take place at three locations, each from 18:00 to 19:00 local time. The schedule is as follows:
– October 9: Will County Extension office, 100 Manhattan Road, Joliet
– October 15: Kankakee County Extension office, 1650 Commerce Drive, Bourbonnais
– October 16: Grundy County Extension office, 4004 N. Division St., Morris
Participants can register for the classes until the day of the event. In addition to the classes, Kuhajda will offer six different “Give the Gift of Gardening” kits as the holiday season approaches. These kits, priced at $15, include five cloves of various garlic types, detailed information on growing, harvesting, and storing garlic, along with recipes to inspire culinary creativity.
To register for the classes or to inquire about the gardening kits, interested individuals can contact Kuhajda directly at 217-300-9270 or via email at [email protected].
This initiative not only fosters a love for gardening but also encourages sustainable practices and self-sufficiency among community members. Whether a novice or an experienced gardener, these classes offer valuable insights to help participants grow their own garlic successfully.
