La Grange Library Expands Card Eligibility to Local Residents

Residents within the boundaries of the **La Grange School District 105** can now apply for a free library card from the **La Grange Public Library**, thanks to the recently expanded eligibility under the **Cards for Kids Act**. This initiative now also includes individuals residing in **La Grange Highlands School District 106** and **Indian Head Park** who previously lacked library services.
Under this new provision, children can receive a library card at no cost, which remains valid for one year and is renewable each year. This benefit extends to homeschooled children as well as those attending private schools.
Sign-Up Incentives and Requirements
September is designated as **Library Card Sign-Up Month**, and to encourage registration, the library is offering a prize of the recipient’s choice to anyone who signs up during this month. Residents aged 13 to 18 from **La Grange Highlands**, **Indian Head Park**, and **District 105** can obtain a new library card either in person or via an online form available on the library’s website. For in-person registration, a valid photo ID is required, which may include student IDs and proof of address if it does not match the ID.
Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when registering for a new library card.
Library Offerings and Resources
The **La Grange Public Library** provides access to a wide range of resources beyond traditional books. Cardholders can explore an extensive digital collection that includes streaming movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, newspapers, and magazines. Additionally, the library offers various online learning options.
Library cardholders also have the opportunity to borrow equipment, which includes **iPads**, **hot spots**, **Rokus**, **Tonieboxes**, and even a sewing machine. The library supports early literacy through programs such as **1,000 Books Before Kindergarten**, alongside circulating literacy kits and board games.
For those aged 16 and older, the library offers the ability to reserve study and meeting rooms, enhancing the resources available for academic and community use. This initiative not only broadens access to educational materials but also strengthens community engagement in **La Grange** and surrounding areas.
