Princeton Public Library Unveils Exciting October Events

The Princeton Public Library, located at 698 E. Peru St., is set to host a series of engaging programs throughout October 2023. The lineup features a variety of events aimed at educating and entertaining the community.
On October 16, author Rachael Mellen will present her book, “From Camp Douglas to Vicksburg: The Civil War Letters of William J. Kennedy, 55th Illinois Infantry, 1861–1863.” The discussion is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will delve into the life of Civil War veteran William Kennedy, a resident of La Salle. Kennedy played a pivotal role in the war, having volunteered to recruit a troop company in August 1861 and participating in significant battles, including Shiloh and Vicksburg.
Cultural Exploration and Musical Performances
The following event, titled “Samhain: The Celtic Roots of Halloween,” will take place on October 21 at 6 p.m.. Attendees will enjoy an evening filled with Celtic stories and songs performed by singer and songwriter Barry Cloyd. This event promises a festive exploration of the cultural roots surrounding the Halloween celebration.
Musical enthusiasts can look forward to “Music of Four Centuries” on October 23, also at 6 p.m.. Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will showcase a range of compositions spanning from the Renaissance to the 20th century, offering a rich auditory experience for attendees.
On October 29, participants can engage in a discussion about the influential careers of cartoonists Edward Gorey and Charles Addams. This event, titled “Gruesome Twosome: Charles Addams and Edward Gorey,” will be led by historical presenter and storyteller Tricia Kelly, starting at 6 p.m.. This unique program will provide insight into the distinctive styles and contributions of these two iconic artists.
