Students Spread Holiday Cheer Packing Hampers for Families in Need
Students from Green Acres School took part in a community initiative on Tuesday, packing bags of candy for Christmas hampers at the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry. This year, a total of 1,710 families in Brandon registered for assistance, marking an increase from the 1,551 families who sought help last year.
The registry is appealing for nearly 200 individuals or groups to adopt a family and provide a Christmas hamper that reflects the standard offerings from the registry. Interested participants can register through the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer website. They will receive a detailed list of items to purchase to fill the hampers, ensuring that families receive the support they need during the holiday season.
Community Engagement and Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to adopting families, the registry is actively seeking volunteers to assist with delivering hampers within the city on December 17 and 18, 2023. Volunteers began packing hampers on November 27, 2023, contributing their time and effort to make the holiday season brighter for those in need.
On the same day, Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett joined local residents, including Samantha Falloon, to help fill hampers, further emphasizing the community’s commitment to supporting families during this festive period.
As the holiday season approaches, the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry continues to play a crucial role in providing for vulnerable families. The increase in registrations reflects a growing awareness and willingness within the community to help those facing challenges during the holidays.
The initiative not only brings joy to recipients but also fosters a spirit of togetherness and generosity among participants, showcasing the power of community support in times of need.
