Ten Quebec Schools Achieve Perfect Scores in Annual Rankings
In the latest annual rankings released by the Fraser Institute, ten schools in Quebec have achieved a perfect score of 10 out of 10. This year’s report highlights significant performance shifts among secondary schools across the province, with nearly 60 institutions improving their standings. The comprehensive evaluation encompasses over 470 public, independent, francophone, and anglophone schools, focusing on provincial assessments in French, English, mathematics, and science.
The standout schools include eight located in Montreal: Collège Saint-Louis, École internationale de Montréal, Jean-de-Brébeuf, Jean-Eudes, Saint-Nom-de-Marie, Pasteur, and Sainte-Anne de Lachine. Additionally, Saint-Sacrement in Terrebonne and Saint-Alexandre in Gatineau also secured perfect scores. Among these, Collège Saint-Louis and École internationale de Montréal are classified as public schools.
Yanick Labrie, a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute, emphasized the importance of the rankings for parents. “Our Report Card offers parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else about their child’s school and how it compares to other schools across Quebec,” he stated.
Performance Trends and Improvements
The rankings indicate a positive trend in the education sector, with 58 schools demonstrating notable improvement. Among these, three institutions in Montreal raised their scores by more than two full points. This rise in performance reflects the potential for academic progress across different types of schools, reinforcing the idea that improvement is achievable regardless of location or student demographics.
“Our school rankings prove that improvement is possible in every corner of the province, in every type of school serving every type of student,” Labrie remarked. He added that these rankings empower parents to make informed choices about their children’s education, encouraging them to engage with school leadership when necessary to address performance issues.
Conversely, the report also highlights challenges, with 43 schools experiencing declines in their performance metrics. The data reveals that while many institutions are improving, there remains a segment that struggles to meet the standards set by their peers.
The Fraser Institute’s annual report serves as a critical tool for parents, educators, and policymakers alike. By providing clear insights into school performance, it fosters accountability and encourages continuous improvement within the education system across Quebec.
