West Nipissing Seeks Crossing Guards Ahead of School Year

As the summer season draws to a close, the municipality of West Nipissing is actively seeking to ensure the safety of children returning to school. With the new academic year set to commence on September 3, the community is looking to hire two crossing guards. These positions are vital for assisting students in safely crossing busy intersections at Ethel Street and Courol Road.
The requirements for the crossing guard roles are quite specific. Successful candidates must be available to work during peak school hours, from 08:00 to 08:45 and again from 15:00 to 15:45, Monday to Friday throughout the academic year, which runs from September to June. The municipality describes these positions as part-time and casual, offering a salary of $20 per hour.
Applicants are required to be at least 18 years old and must possess proficiency in both English and French. A satisfactory criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, is also mandatory for employment. The physical demands of the job include standing for two periods of 45 minutes each day and holding a stop sign at shoulder height for approximately one minute while children cross the street. The sign weighs around one pound, and potential candidates should consider these physical requirements before applying.
In the event of any incidents occurring within their designated crossing areas, guards are expected to document and report these incidents to the municipality, relevant school officials, or the Nipissing West OPP as necessary.
Those interested in applying for these critical positions can submit their resumes to Sonal Brahmbhatt via email or drop them off at the municipal office located at 225 Holditch Street in Sturgeon Falls. With the school year approaching, timely applications are encouraged to ensure the safety of local students as they return to class.
