Emily Clark Shines as Ottawa Charge Secures Fourth Straight Win
OTTAWA — Emily Clark marked a significant milestone in her season by scoring her first goal and point of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) on January 3, 2026, contributing to an impressive 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Frost. This accomplishment comes as the Ottawa Charge celebrates a four-game winning streak, reflecting the team’s overall improvement and steady performance.
Clark’s goal, achieved during the tenth game of the season, underscores her persistence and dedication. Previously finishing second in team scoring last season, she expressed the importance of accumulating points as the Charge aim to solidify their position in the standings. “We’ve just been building our game, and you know every point matters in this league,” Clark stated. “It’s great that we’re rolling a bit here, and to get a three-point regulation win was huge for us.”
As the Charge approach the Olympic break, the significance of securing points is paramount. Last season, they narrowly clinched a playoff berth and advanced to the Walter Cup final, where they faced the Frost. This year, Ottawa is determined to avoid a repeat of their first-season experience, where they missed the playoffs on the final day.
Team Growth and Chemistry
Head Coach Carla MacLeod emphasized the importance of continuous development, asserting that the coaching staff prioritizes finding ways to build on the team’s successes. “For us, it’s about getting better every day,” MacLeod remarked. She noted that while many focus on the record, fostering a cohesive team environment is equally crucial.
The current winning streak reflects the team’s growth and the chemistry developing among players. Following roster changes due to the expansion draft and free-agent signings, players are beginning to find their rhythm. “It’s not going to be an easy night ever; it’s going to be close games always,” MacLeod explained. “You’re going to have to dig out of holes, you’re going to have to hold a lead, but we’re starting to see the ingredients come to be.”
Another key player, Brianne Jenner, has regained her scoring touch, netting three goals in her last two games. Playing alongside Rebecca Leslie and Sarah Wozniewicz, the trio has shown promising chemistry, generating numerous scoring opportunities. Wozniewicz, who was drafted 21st overall by the Charge in 2025, has contributed with two goals and two assists through ten games, adding speed to the team’s offensive play.
Clark’s Breakthrough and Upcoming Challenges
Clark’s breakthrough goal against the Frost alleviated some pressure she felt from a scoring slump. “I mean, obviously, the monkey was feeling a little heavy, but it’s just because you want to help the team out,” Clark shared. “But it’s been great. We’ve been rolling, and a lot of players have been playing really great hockey.”
Looking ahead, the Charge will face the Vancouver Goldeneyes on Friday, with the team eager to continue their winning momentum. As they strive to secure their place in the playoffs, the Charge’s recent performances signal a promising shift in their season trajectory.
