Emily Clark Shines as Ottawa Charge Triumph Over Minnesota Frost
OTTAWA — In a standout performance, Emily Clark scored her first goal of the season, leading the Ottawa Charge to a decisive 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Frost on January 3, 2026. This win marks a significant moment for Clark, who had been working diligently since the season began, striving to contribute more to her team.
The Charge are currently enjoying a four-game winning streak, reflecting their improvement and resilience throughout the season. Clark’s goal came during the team’s tenth game, a rewarding moment after a series of efforts that had yet to yield results. “We’ve just been building our game, and you know every point matters in this league,” Clark stated. She finished second in team scoring last season and emphasizes the importance of accumulating points, especially with only six games remaining before the Olympic break.
Team Growth and Strategies
Throughout the season, the Charge have focused on developing their game, aiming for consistent improvement. Carla MacLeod, the team’s head coach, noted the significance of the current winning streak, attributing it to the overall growth of the team. After facing challenges from roster changes due to the expansion draft and free-agent signings, players are starting to find their rhythm together. “It’s not going to be an easy night ever; it’s going to be close games always,” MacLeod explained, highlighting the importance of perseverance in tight matchups.
The Charge’s record shows that only one of their four victories this season has come in regulation, underscoring the competitive nature of the league. Last season, Ottawa narrowly missed the playoffs on the final day but secured a berth this time around, ultimately reaching the Walter Cup final, where they faced the Frost.
Key Player Performances
In addition to Clark’s breakout performance, several players have stepped up, including captain Brianne Jenner. After a challenging previous season, Jenner has regained her scoring prowess, netting three goals in her last two games. Paired with teammates Rebecca Leslie and Sarah Wozniewicz, the trio has developed strong chemistry, generating numerous scoring opportunities.
Wozniewicz, who was drafted 21st overall by the Charge in 2025, has also made a notable impact, contributing two goals and two assists through ten games. Her speed has been an asset to the Charge’s top line, helping to elevate the team’s offensive play.
Clark, reflecting on her scoring struggles, remarked, “I mean, obviously, the monkey was feeling a little heavy, but it’s just because you want to help the team out.” Her goal has reignited her confidence as the Charge continue to perform well as a unit.
The Charge will look to maintain their momentum when they host the Vancouver Goldeneyes this Friday, as they aim to solidify their standings in the league. The team’s recent performances have shown promise, and players are eager to build on their success.
This report by The Canadian Press highlights the ongoing journey of the Ottawa Charge as they navigate the challenges of the season while striving for success.
