Winnipeg’s fitness landscape is thriving, with local studios redefining what it means to pursue health and wellness. These spaces are not just about physical workouts; they foster community, empowerment, and personal growth. This article highlights four standout fitness studios that are making a significant impact on the lives of Winnipeggers.

The Gang Fitness: A Community-Centric Approach

At The Gang Fitness, the focus shifts away from traditional gym routines. Instead of drop-in classes, participants enroll in a structured 14-week training program. This model promotes camaraderie as members train alongside the same group and coaches who understand their individual strengths and goals.

Founded by Johanna Chambers in September 2024, The Gang Fitness emphasizes the importance of self-belief through training. “It’s sort of like personal training, but on a team instead of by yourself,” Johanna explains. The studio welcomes women and non-binary individuals of all ages and body types, guiding them towards confidence and capability.

The Vault Cycle Club: Celebrating Strength and Connection

The Vault Cycle Club, previously known as Wheelhouse Cycle Club, opened its doors in 2018. The studio rebranded in April 2023 under the leadership of Taylor Renaud, creating a renewed focus on community and empowerment.

Every ride at The Vault is designed to be a vibrant celebration, with music and lights enhancing the experience. Taylor emphasizes that the connection among riders extends beyond the stationary bikes. Events such as Vault on the Water at Lake of the Woods and outdoor classes in True North Square exemplify the studio’s commitment to building a supportive community.

“Our riders are the reason we exist,” Taylor states. The Vault offers introductory packages to encourage newcomers to join the energetic environment. Learn more at vaultclub.ca or follow on Instagram @ridethevault.

Awesome Hot Yoga: A Family Legacy of Wellness

Opened in 2015 by Marc Amphavannasouk and his mother, Vonne Bannavong, Awesome Hot Yoga combines athleticism with a holistic approach to well-being. The studio’s welcoming atmosphere features a hot room accommodating up to 60 participants, where classes focus on both physical fitness and spiritual healing.

“Our most popular class is Core Flow, which blends workout intensity with yoga principles,” Marc shares. His journey into hot yoga began in 2007, and his enthusiasm inspired his mother to participate. Today, the studio features experienced instructors from diverse backgrounds and offers an Intro Month Unlimited Pass for just $60 to encourage new participants.

The Fitual: Movement Meets Mindfulness

Founded by Chalnessa Eames in 2019, The Fitual is a dynamic studio on Corydon Avenue. Chalnessa, a former professional dancer, has infused her passion for movement into classes that prioritize both strength and mental well-being.

The Fitual offers high-energy classes like The Fitual and The Mega Fitual, combining cardio, strength training, and mindful movement. Chalnessa notes, “We want people to move with intention and leave each class feeling connected and supported.”

Notably, The Fitual embraces inclusivity through donation-based classes and support for pre- and postnatal participants. The studio is set to expand this November with The Fitual 2.0, allowing for greater community engagement and new offerings.
