Fundraiser to Support Ken Bland’s Battle with Stage 4 Cancer

A fundraising event is set for Saturday, September 6, 2023, to assist Ken Bland, a resident of Crystal Lake, who is currently battling Stage 4 cancer. Diagnosed in 2023 with ampullary adenocarcinoma, a rare form of gastrointestinal cancer, Bland initially experienced a period of remission following surgery and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, in June, the cancer metastasized, prompting the need for palliative chemotherapy, as the prognosis remains challenging.
Bland’s family has highlighted the financial strain they are facing due to medical expenses not covered by insurance. Sheri Bland, Ken’s wife, emphasized the need for funds to support immunotherapy treatments, which are classified as experimental.
The fundraising event will take place from 18:00 to 21:00 at Shiloh Church, located at 3419 Walkup Road in Crystal Lake. Described as a “night of laughs,” the event will feature performances by magician and humorist John Hopkins, comedian and filmmaker Matt Sommerfield, and Chicago comedy all-star and emcee Ken Sevara. The evening will also include a raffle, adding to the entertainment.
Tickets are priced at $35 and can be purchased at the door using exact cash or check, as well as through digital payment options like Venmo, Zelle, or credit card via a third-party vendor. For those wishing to secure tickets in advance, they can be purchased online for $39.19, including fees, at eventbrite.com by searching for “Ken Bland Comedy Benefit.”
In addition to the event, Sheri Bland and a family friend have launched a campaign on GoFundMe to further support Ken’s treatment. The fundraiser can be accessed at gofundme.com/f/support-kens-lifesaving-treatment, providing an avenue for those unable to attend the event to contribute.
This fundraising effort aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by the Bland family during this difficult time, as they navigate Ken’s ongoing treatment and care.
