Health Canada Seizes Unauthorized Drugs from Vancouver Gym
Health Canada has taken action against unauthorized health products being sold at a fitness gym in Vancouver. The agency seized over two dozen items, including injectable hormones and controlled substances, from Rize Fitness located on Smithe Street. The products were also available for purchase online through the now-removed website, phxlab.net.
In a public advisory issued on March 15, 2024, Health Canada emphasized that none of the seized products received authorization from the agency. This lack of approval means that these products have not undergone necessary assessments for safety, efficacy, and quality. The agency stated, “Selling unauthorized health products in Canada is illegal,” underscoring the seriousness of the issue.
Following Health Canada’s intervention, Rize Fitness has ceased advertising and selling these unauthorized products. The gym did not respond to requests for comment regarding the seizure. The products confiscated include injectable peptides and testosterone compounds, commonly associated with bodybuilding, anti-aging, athletic performance enhancement, or weight loss.
Health officials have warned that the use of unauthorized drugs can pose significant health risks. These substances may interact negatively with other medications or contain unlisted high-risk ingredients, additives, or contaminants. The use of injectable drugs is particularly concerning due to the potential for infections or allergic reactions stemming from contamination or improper handling.
Individuals who have used these unauthorized products are encouraged to consult with a healthcare provider if they have any health concerns. Health Canada also urges consumers to report any side effects or complaints to the agency.
As part of their commitment to public safety, Health Canada will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that unauthorized health products do not reach consumers. The agency remains vigilant in its efforts to protect Canadians from potentially harmful substances and illegal health products.
A complete list of the seized products has been made available by Health Canada for public awareness.
