Health Canada Seizes Unauthorized Ivermectin and Other Drugs
Health Canada has seized several unauthorized health products, including ivermectin, from a business in Kelowna, British Columbia. The action followed an inspection of Ezra Healing on October 30, 2023, prompted by allegations of non-compliance with the Food and Drugs Act and related regulations. The department confirmed the seizure in a communication with The Epoch Times on November 7, 2023.
During the inspection, officials from Health Canada confiscated a variety of unauthorized prescription drugs. Among the seized items were ivermectin, mebendazole, hydroxychloroquine, and azithromycin. These products were reportedly marketed by the owner of Ezra Healing, Svetlana Rilkoff, who claimed they could treat serious medical conditions, including cancer.
Claims of Effectiveness and Social Media Backlash
Rilkoff documented the inspection on social media, asserting that the ivermectin in question was “healing cancer and vaccine injuries.” Her statements have drawn significant attention, both in support and opposition. Critics argue that promoting such claims without sufficient scientific backing poses serious risks to public health.
Health Canada’s actions reflect ongoing efforts to regulate health products and ensure consumer safety. Unauthorized medications can lead to adverse health effects, and the agency emphasizes the importance of using products that have been thoroughly tested and approved.
Regulatory Framework and Public Health Implications
The seizure of these products raises questions about the regulatory framework surrounding alternative health treatments. According to Health Canada, products must meet strict criteria to be marketed legally. The agency advises consumers to be cautious of businesses making unverified health claims.
As discussions around ivermectin persist, especially in light of its controversial use during the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation at Ezra Healing underscores the necessity for oversight in the health sector. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of evidence-based medicine and the potential dangers associated with unauthorized health products.
Health Canada remains committed to protecting Canadians by ensuring that health products available on the market meet established safety and efficacy standards. The agency’s proactive approach aims to prevent the distribution of unapproved drugs that could compromise public health.
