Lethbridge has welcomed six new doctors in the third quarter of 2025, according to the latest report from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. This increase brings the total number of fully registered physicians practicing in the city to 317, marking an improvement from the previous quarter and a net growth of 43 doctors over the past three years.

The report covers the period from July 1 to September 30, 2025. While many residents in Lethbridge still face challenges in securing a primary care physician, the recent additions signal positive progress in the healthcare landscape. Compared to the same time last year, the city has seen an increase of four physicians.

In the wider region, Medicine Hat has also experienced growth, adding six doctors in the last three months. Conversely, Brooks reported a decrease of one physician during the same period. Overall, the South Health Zone has seen an increase of 18 working doctors over the past year, which includes both specialists and non-specialists.

As of late September, several clinics in the area are actively accepting new patients. According to AlbertaFindADoctor.ca, family physicians at the Wild Rose Clinic in Lethbridge, as well as the Coulee Medical Clinic in Taber, the Picture Butte Medical Clinic, and the Cardston Medical Clinic, are currently open for new patient registrations.

The province as a whole has seen significant growth in its medical workforce. A total of 442 physicians became registered to practice in Alberta during the third quarter of this year. Notably, approximately 77.6 percent of these new registrations were concentrated in either Calgary or Edmonton.

The interactive data related to the quarterly physician resource statistics is available online, offering insights into the healthcare trends impacting Lethbridge and beyond. These developments reflect ongoing efforts to improve access to medical care in the region, addressing the demands of a growing population.

As Lethbridge continues to expand its healthcare services, residents can anticipate a more robust system that aims to meet their primary care needs more effectively.
