London Children’s Hospital Celebrates Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

The London Children’s Hospital marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a vibrant handprint ceremony, engaging young patients in a unique artistic expression. In partnership with Hyundai, the event featured children affected by cancer dipping their hands in paint and leaving their prints on two Hyundai SUVs. This initiative is part of Hyundai’s ongoing program, **Hope on Wheels**, which aims to raise funds for paediatric cancer research and support.
Hyundai Canada contributed **$100,000** to the cause, while Finch Hyundai augmented this donation with an additional **$40,000**. The funds raised during this event are crucial for enhancing services and resources available for children battling cancer.
Honouring Healthcare Providers
The ceremony not only focused on raising funds but also celebrated the dedication of healthcare professionals working tirelessly in paediatric oncology. Dr. Alexandra Zorzi, the Division Chair of Paediatric Hematology Oncology, expressed gratitude for the support received. She emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work of the oncology team, stating, “I think we need to applaud them for a great celebratory day, but recognizing there’s a lot of hard days in between. So I thank everyone that identifies themselves as being a part of our team on pediatric oncology today.”
The handprint ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the strength and resilience of young patients and their families. Children, along with their families, participated enthusiastically, creating lasting memories and a sense of community among those affected by similar challenges.
Impact of Hope on Wheels
Hyundai’s **Hope on Wheels** program has been instrumental in funding paediatric cancer research across North America. Since its inception, the initiative has allocated over **$200 million** to support hospitals, research institutions, and organizations dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. Events like the one at the London Children’s Hospital play a vital role in raising awareness and generating funds necessary for continued progress in this critical area of healthcare.
As Childhood Cancer Awareness Month continues, the efforts made by organizations like Hyundai and the London Children’s Hospital highlight the importance of community support and collaboration in addressing the needs of young cancer patients. The handprint ceremony not only raised awareness but also fostered a spirit of hope and solidarity among families, medical staff, and supporters alike.
