Midland Hosts Successful Free Pet Vaccine Clinic, More Ahead
A recent free pet vaccination clinic in Midland, Ontario, proved to be a significant success, with a total of **45 animals** treated over the weekend. The event, organized by the **Ontario SPCA and Humane Society**, took place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 80 and was aimed at pet owners on subsidized income who lack regular veterinary care. Residents from Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay, Tiny, and Christian Island were eligible to participate.
Providing access to veterinary services is crucial, as it not only keeps pets healthy but also supports the families who care for them. Krista Grant, community outreach coordinator with the Ontario SPCA Midland and District Animal Centre, emphasized this point, stating, “By providing accessible veterinary services, we’re helping keep pets healthy and supporting the families who care for them.”
In addition to vaccinations, the clinic offered wellness exams conducted by the team from **Mountainview Veterinary Clinic**. Staff members distributed over **1,000 pounds** of pet food and essential supplies, including leashes, collars, and bowls. Completing the comprehensive care offered at the clinic were nail trims, enhancing the overall well-being of the pets in attendance.
The event received funding support from the **County of Simcoe** and **Tay Township**, as well as a sponsorship from **Pet Valu’s Companions for Change program**. Grant noted the inspiring collaboration among the team, highlighting their dedication to the community.
Upcoming Clinics Scheduled
Another vaccination clinic is already in the works, with a third event set for **November 15, 2023**, at the same location. This upcoming clinic will provide booster shots and wellness exams for eligible pet owners. For more information on eligibility and participation, interested individuals can contact the Ontario SPCA at **705-534-4459**.
The successful turnout at the weekend clinic underscores the importance of accessible veterinary services in promoting animal health and supporting local communities. As these initiatives continue, they offer hope and assistance to pet owners who may otherwise lack access to essential care for their animals.
