Police Respond to Gunshots at YowFest, Events Cancelled

Police maintained a significant presence at Lansdowne Park on the evening of March 15, 2024, following reports of gunshots in the area around 16:20. Officers responded quickly to the incident, which occurred near the multicultural music festival, YowFest. As of 19:00, authorities confirmed that no injuries had been reported and no arrests had been made.
According to police officials, the search for a suspect is ongoing. “A large police presence remains in the area as officers continue to search for the suspect, who is still outstanding,” they stated. The incident prompted immediate action, leading to festival organizers announcing delays for Friday’s events.
YowFest Cancels Events for Safety
In light of the unfolding situation, YowFest organizers took to Instagram to inform attendees about the delays. They later issued a statement declaring that the first day of the festival had been cancelled. “Unfortunately, we are unable to move forward with Day 1 of the festival. Your safety and experience are our top priority, and we’ll provide updates regarding next steps shortly. Thank you for your understanding,” the statement read.
YowFest, which aims to celebrate the diverse linguistic and artistic tapestry of Canada, was set to feature performances from various artists. The festival was scheduled to kick off at 17:00, showcasing both Canadian and international talent. Among those slated to perform was Xavier Trudeau, son of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who was expected to present his debut R&B single, “Til The Nights Done,” later that evening.
As the situation continues to develop, police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. The community remains on alert, and the focus is firmly on ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
Authorities and festival organizers are working together to provide updates and ensure a safe environment for future events. As of now, no further details about the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the gunfire have been disclosed.
