Portage la Prairie’s Terry Fox Run Raises $2,815 for Cancer Research

Approximately 80 participants gathered at Island Park in Portage la Prairie on September 14, 2023, for the annual Terry Fox Run, successfully raising $2,815 for cancer research. This event, held in honor of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, aims to inspire communities to contribute to the fight against cancer.
The Terry Fox Run is a national tradition in Canada, celebrating Fox’s legacy and his determination to raise funds for cancer research during his own battle with the disease. Participants of all ages joined in the run and walk, demonstrating their commitment to supporting cancer research initiatives.
Local organizers expressed their gratitude for the community’s enthusiasm and generosity. “We are thrilled to see such a strong turnout this year,” said one of the event coordinators. “Every dollar raised goes directly to vital research projects that can help make a difference for cancer patients.”
The funds collected during the event will be directed to the Terry Fox Foundation, which has supported cancer research for over four decades. Since its inception, the foundation has raised millions of dollars, significantly contributing to advancements in cancer treatment and prevention.
This year’s event included a variety of activities to engage participants, including prizes for top fundraisers and refreshments at the finish line. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of camaraderie and purpose, as participants wore shirts bearing inspirational messages in support of those affected by cancer.
As the run concluded, many expressed their hopes for a future where cancer is no longer a threat. “Being part of this event is a reminder of why we run,” noted one participant. “It’s about coming together for a cause that impacts so many lives.”
The Terry Fox Run continues to be a significant event for communities across Canada, uniting people in the fight against cancer while honoring the spirit of a remarkable individual whose legacy lives on through ongoing research efforts.
