Victoria MLA Grace Lore Shares Progress on Cancer Recovery

Grace Lore, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Victoria-Beacon Hill, has provided an update on her recovery following treatment for colorectal cancer. Lore, who was diagnosed with the illness in November 2024, revealed her condition shortly after her re-election in the October 2024 provincial election. While she stepped back from her role as British Columbia’s Minister of Children and Family Development, she continued to serve her constituents as MLA.
Health Update Following Treatment
In a video message shared on July 7, 2025, Lore detailed the challenges she has faced during her treatment journey, which included chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. She described the experience as a “long journey” but expressed optimism about her progress. “Things are going well, but I am still battling fatigue and pain and the things that come with cancer, cancer treatment and recovery,” she stated.
Looking ahead, Lore mentioned that she would take a brief break from treatment this fall before undergoing her next surgery. “I’m going to take the opportunity over the next couple of months to be present and to do what I can to support the work while I continue to recover,” she said, emphasizing her commitment to her community.
Community Support and Awareness
In her message, Lore highlighted how much she has missed engaging with her constituents and working alongside her colleagues. “I love this community and this province so much and I have deeply missed working to make life better for our neighbours,” she added, thanking the community for their patience and support throughout her treatment.
As she prepared for surgery in July, Lore also urged the public to be aware of the signs of colorectal cancer, particularly as cases have been increasing among younger people. Her advocacy serves to raise awareness and potentially save lives by encouraging early detection.
Grace Lore’s journey reflects both the personal challenges of battling cancer and the importance of community support in recovery. As she continues her fight, she remains dedicated to her role as an MLA and her commitment to the people of Victoria-Beacon Hill.
