Windsor Regional Hospital Appoints Kristin Kennedy as New CEO
Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has appointed Kristin Kennedy as its incoming president and CEO, set to assume the role in April 2026. Kennedy is a well-known figure in the Windsor-Essex healthcare community, currently serving as the president and CEO of Erie Shores Healthcare since 2020. Her extensive background includes multiple senior positions at WRH, highlighting her deep ties to the institution.
Kennedy’s experience at WRH includes pivotal roles such as director of critical care and cardiology, as well as operations manager for the neurosciences program. She began her career in healthcare as a neonatal intensive care nurse and flight nurse in Texas, and has also worked in hospitals in Michigan. In addition to her executive roles, Kennedy contributes to the education sector as a part-time professor in McMaster University’s Master of Health Management Program.
Strategic Leadership During Transition
The announcement comes at a crucial time for WRH, as the hospital prepares for the construction of a new acute-care facility in the coming years. Ian McLeod, the chair of the WRH Board, emphasized that Kennedy’s leadership experience is particularly valuable during this transition. In her own statement, Kennedy expressed enthusiasm about joining WRH and highlighted her commitment to ensuring a smooth transition at Erie Shores Healthcare.
Current WRH president and CEO Karen Riddell will maintain her role through the transition period and plans to retire in spring 2026. This arrangement allows for continuity as Kennedy prepares to step into her new position.
Impact on Erie Shores Healthcare
Kennedy will continue her duties at Erie Shores Healthcare until March 22, 2026. The board at Erie Shores has praised her leadership, noting that she successfully guided the hospital through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a recent cyberattack.
Acknowledging the difficulty of her decision to leave, Kennedy noted the strong relationships she has developed with staff and leadership at the Leamington-based hospital. The Erie Shores board plans to appoint an interim CEO later this winter, with Kennedy staying on to facilitate a smooth transition and continuity for the organization.
Kennedy’s extensive experience and dedication to healthcare position her to lead WRH into a new era while managing the challenges of her imminent transition from Erie Shores Healthcare.
