Belleville Police Launch CORE+ Initiative to Boost Community Safety
The Belleville Police Service has announced the launch of the CORE+ Initiative, an enhanced strategy focused on community safety and engagement in downtown Belleville. This initiative builds upon the summer’s successful Community-Oriented Responsive Enforcement (CORE) program, aiming to further promote safety and well-being in the area.
CORE+ represents a collaborative effort involving police, municipal departments, and community partners, all working together to address critical issues such as addiction, mental health, and homelessness. The initiative emphasizes proactive enforcement and increased visibility in the downtown core, which is recognized as a vital part of the city.
Mayor Neil Ellis expressed his support for the initiative, stating, “Our downtown core is a source of pride for our city. Its rich history, distinctive establishments, and remarkable architecture deserve to be safeguarded.” This sentiment underscores the importance of maintaining a safe environment for both residents and visitors.
The CORE+ program is designed to provide additional resources and tools for officers, enabling them to respond effectively to community concerns. By enhancing the visibility of law enforcement in the downtown area, police aim to deter crime and address safety issues more efficiently. The initiative will also include outreach efforts to connect individuals in need with appropriate services, thereby addressing the root causes of community challenges.
The City of Belleville’s commitment to improving safety is reflected in its strategy to tackle addiction and mental health issues head-on. The CORE+ Initiative aligns with citywide efforts to create a safer, more supportive environment for all residents. This multi-faceted approach is intended to foster collaboration among various stakeholders, ensuring that the community’s needs are met comprehensively.
As the CORE+ Initiative rolls out, the Belleville Police Service anticipates positive outcomes in community safety and engagement. Through proactive measures and collaboration, the program aims to enhance the quality of life in downtown Belleville, making it a more welcoming space for everyone.
