Breakfast and Spelling Bee Boost Literacy in Victoria

The Rotary Clubs of Victoria-Saanich and Oak Bay are set to host a breakfast and spelling bee on November 19, 2023, aimed at raising funds for the Victoria Literacy Connection. Taking place at the Victoria Marriott Hotel from 07:30 to 08:30, the event invites company teams and individuals to demonstrate their spelling prowess while supporting a worthy cause.
Participants will compete in a friendly atmosphere, with the challenge culminating in a trophy for the table that successfully spells 15 words correctly. “Even lawyers, accountants, bankers, teachers, students, and media will be challenged with some unusual words in a variety of categories,” stated Liz Lecavalier, coordinator of the Oak Bay Rotary Club. She emphasized the spirit of community and competition that defines this hour-long event.
Registration for the breakfast and spelling bee is set at $50 per person or $400 for a team of eight, which includes a hearty continental breakfast. All proceeds will directly benefit the Victoria Literacy Connection’s essential programs that foster reading, writing, and learning skills across all age groups.
These initiatives have a significant impact, transforming lives by enhancing productivity, educational opportunities, and overall happiness. Over the years, the Victoria Literacy Connection has supported thousands of children and youth in developing their literacy skills during crucial stages of their education.
To participate, teams and individuals must register by November 7, 2023. More information and registration details can be found at victorialiteracyconnection.ca.
This event not only promises an engaging competition but also plays a vital role in addressing literacy needs in the community, showcasing the Rotary Clubs’ commitment to making a difference through education.
